The thing about reading on an iPad, or kindle, or nook is that when the tears fall on the screen you wipe them away frantically and the page turns and the zoom messes up and the brightness goes wonky. When I look back at my paperback 20 years from now, I’ll see those ink smudges and remember exactly what I felt when I read those words.

Exactly. Also, once I pulled out a tooth while I was reading; I can’t remember which book it was now, but I do know that I’ve opened it since, spotted the decade-old, brown blood smears on the page, and had a rush of memories. About that time I was reading and yanked a tooth out of my mouth and just kept going, apparently.
